IRCReport started once upon a time as IRCNews and prior to that it went through various different names all with the basic same goal, to report on not just the
niche IRC news but all the news, as time passed IRCNews and then later IRCReport expanded beyond just offering news but also offering files and resources. IRCReport's founder X-Ception is a fan of opensource so near every part of the site is powered by open source technology including the site and its extensions.
Over the years that IRCReport has been around we have built a good relationship with various IRC developers whom are often throwing us the latest in news and from time to time opening up the odd debate within our numerous IRC channels.
#IRCReport
Around a year ago IRCNews as we we're called then resided upon IrCQnet a network which we no longer associate with, we broke ties with IrCQnet and moved over to ChatSpike, a few weeks after moving to ChatSpike we had doubled our regular visitors as well as changes name to IRCReport due to a hosting company making life difficult (as they do). When we moved to IRCReport we switched to Drupal a very powerful content management system however within 40 weeks we soon we're looking back to Joomla! another content management system due to the time it takes to do most anything in Drupal.
Since the initial move to ChatSpike we have met some awesome people with really very few issues and have attracted various projects to the channel such as DMDirc, WeIRCd, ircd-seven and InspIRCd developers as well as the odd drop in from a few of the Anope team. Further expansion to other networks also lead us to meet some other interesting developers such as the axod and Mibbit team
Relayed Channels
Not all that long ago we did some brainstorming in the channel in an effort to allow people whom simply did not wish to take part on ChatSpike to still be able to take part, Elmaron the WeIRCd developer put the first bot together written in C. While the bot was working rather well some key features were missing. A few short weeks later and Dataforce of DMDirc had ported the bot to a plugin based system for DMDirc and offered to replace the original bot with the DMDirc powered one (which they themselves started to use for their own projects).
Since then we have added around 10 network channels and only removed around 2-3, although Eloxoph and Quakenet we're technically the first networks to relay IRCReport, GeeksIRC was indeed the first network to request the bot being placed within their network so they could take part. We now have at the time of writing 10+ networks all relaying our IRC goodness across the internet.
